The Lotus of Ten Flames

In homage to the Rig Veda’s Mandals

From breathless dawn the hymns arose,
A lotus bloomed in fire's repose.
Ten petals wide the blossom spread,
Where gods were called and sages led.

The first unfolded Agni's light,
And asked who stirred the primal night.
Varuna judged, and Indra roared—
The Riddle's flame in silence soared.

The second spoke in sturdy tone,
Gritsamada's chants alone.
Short and clear, with steady voice,
Where Agni burned in measured choice.

The third sang high with morning gold,
The Gayatri's mantra manifold.
Vishvamitra carved the ray,
Where soul and sun began to pray.

The fourth was mystic, deep within,
Where Rbhus shaped the breathless wind.
Vamadeva’s verse declared:
"I was the wind, the fire I shared."

The fifth in thunder's rhythm poured,
As Maruts danced and rain gods soared.
Atri praised the twin divine,
With voice in balance, clean and fine.

The sixth stood strong like pillar true,
With Bharadwaj’s ordered view.
Agni, Indra, Soma met,
In chants the wise would not forget.

The seventh hymned the rivers wide,
As Sudas fought with sages’ guide.
Vasishtha stood with sacred song,
Where dharma ruled the right from wrong.

The eighth let varied voices blend,
With Kanva, Angirasa penned.
Ecstatic chants and flashes vast,
A Mandal where echoes last.

The ninth poured Soma’s gleaming tide,
Where only one was deified.
Pressed and pure, the nectar ran—
A drink for god, and god in man.

The tenth then lifted gaze to skies,
And pondered how the worlds arise.
Creation’s doubt, the self, the whole—
A mirror held to seek the soul.

Ten flames, ten truths, one lotus bright,
Unfolding through the Vedic night.
Each petal etched with sacred thread—
The voice, the vow, the living Veda said
