A Thread of Wisdom

The Sutra, a sacred Indian thread,

Are maxims of knowledge concisely said.

In ancient days, when memory was key,

Aphoristic rules for all to see.

A form of writing, spare and brief,

To guide the student and grant relief

From long discourses, dense and vast,

Their pithy wisdom is meant to last.

For ritual law or yoga's way,

They were the core that held the sway.

The teacher then would clarity impart,

Unraveling the secrets held in the heart.
