The Echo of the Stage

Silent Sermon
The tongue is so nimble, it dances with ease,
It scatters illusions like leaves in the breeze;
Yet substance dissolves when the echoes are gone,
And shadows of wisdom fade quickly at dawn.

The platform is lofty, the spotlight is bright,
We conjure up visions that dazzle the sight;
But truth is not found in the glamour of stage,
It lives in the silence beyond written page.

The voice may continue for hours on end,
Correcting the stranger, the foe, or the friend;
Yet words without practice are hollow and vain,
They crumble like castles built out of rain.

The claim of control over thought and desire,
Is empty when actions betray what we hire;
Integrity falters when speech takes the lead,
And virtue is lost in the absence of deed.

Applause is mistaken for measure of worth,
A fleeting illusion that dies with its birth;
The cleverest counsel is fragile and thin,
It vanishes quickly when tested within.

The mirror reveals what the tongue cannot hide,
The silence of conduct, the boasting of pride;
For truth is not spoken, it lives in the way,
It shines in the choices we make every day.

True strength is unspoken, it whispers in peace,
It does not depend on the crowd’s quick release;
It dwells in the stillness, it rests in the soul,
It carries the spirit to ultimate goal.

The measure of life is the path that we tread,
Not sermons repeated or doctrines we spread;
For greatness is found in the quiet of deeds,
Where love is the language and kindness the seeds.

So silence the tongue when it clamors for show,
Let actions be rivers where truth learns to flow;
The sermon of life is not crafted in speech,
It dwells in the journey that practice can teach.
